Get several estimates. Tree guys often just throw random dollar amounts out to see if customers will bite.
Find a tree guy short on beer money, and you'll get the job much cheaper.

We were quoted $1000 for a 70-80' pine tree. that included removal and stump grinding.

They're called arborists and you act like this shite is done by Joe Blow off of Craigslist. That's not how it works and is stupid advice on your part.

"Find a tree guy short on beer money" and you'll find yourself asking the guy why he didn't have the proper license and insurance when he lands that tree on your house.
