Armageddon is a severely underrated movie, IMO.

Bruce Willis
Ben Affleck
Billy Bob Thornton
Owen Wilson
Steve Buscemi
Michael Clarke Duncan
William Fichtner
Will Patton
Liv Tyler
Incredible cast. I also think the film itself was done pretty well. There are some seriously funny parts that made the movie flow really well - to go along with the emotional drama.
Liv Tyler isn't great, but she fine - and did a decent job with her limited role.
I thought the rest of the cast did a phenomenal job with their roles. Thoughts?

Let's think about this for a second. We have a few days until the earth is destroyed. Should we train astronauts to drill a hole, or should we teach oil drillers to be astronauts? Such a tough decision.

I was just reading the trivia on IMDB. Apparently much of the cast and the director disagree with you. Several actors claim to have only done it for the money. Willis refuses to ever work with Bay again. Bay thinks of it as his worst movie.

I enjoy listening and reading about real life NASA-type folk tear this movie to shreds.

Who underrates this movie? I've never really seen anything bad about it.
Its a physics travesty, though. That'll never change.

It is often brought up on the board as a "guilty pleasure" for a lot of people. I've always enjoyed the movie - particularly the characters and their interactions. I think some of the action sequences are kind of muddled though and may have foreshadowed some of Bay's later problems.
As far as concerns about reality, physics, etc. - that doesn't bother me. But then again I also enjoy movies with hobbits, white walkers, zombies, Norse gods, Krypotonians, etc.

Whenever I play the actor > movie > actor game Armageddon is the movie to direct everything to and from because of that cast.
It is such a useful tool that I even say that I have to go through Armageddon to get from start to finish.
Shame you didn't add Peter Stormare, and I wouldn't really put Owen Wilson in the lead cast because he didn't have that big of a part. The rest are fine!
Shia LeBoeuf ----> Taylor Swift (w/ Armageddon Filter)
Shia LaBoeuf > Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull > Harrison Ford > Hollywood Homicide > Josh Hartnett > Pearl Harbor > Ben Affleck > Armageddon > Peter Stormare (SEE?! Stormare!) > The Big Lebowski > Jeff Bridges > The Giver > Taylor Swift

The cast did everything humanly possible to save this film from its director and screenwriter. The cast's efforts make it a watchable, but otherwise dumb film.

Incredibly stupid movie
And Liv Tyler epitomizes the term "butterface"

When talking movies with someone I've just met, Armageddon and Independence Day are two of my benchmark movies.
If they LOVE these, I downgrade their opinion harshly.
They are both shite movies.

Without question my favorite "hollywood" type of movie. Sure, some silliness. But overall funny and entertaining and with a heart.

It's one of the most formulaic movies I've ever seen, even by Michael Bay standards. I can enjoy it for what it is, but it's not a good movie.

A good cast alone doesn't equal a good film. It's a hilariously bad movie that's unaware of how intellectually offensive it is. I think it just got a little worse at the mere mention of it being underrated.

Armageddon is a great movie to watch hungover on a Sunday. It is entertaining.

It is the best movie for teaching directors how not to direct, editors how not to edit, actors how not to act, and writers how not to write

One of the worst if not most laughable movies I ever saw.

Didn't read the whole thread but -
I'm willing to bet the people that enjoyed this film are between the ages of 24 and 32 right now.
Right in that age where you would have believed anything in the movies simply because it was on the big screen. It also involved big machines in space on an asteroid and America used a nuke to blow it up. What else would a boy want?
