i think the jury is out on Ventura. He was supposed to be a really smart baseball guy. His team isn't exactly well built, imo.

His first year he had them in the hunt and they surprised a lot of people

Ventura is terrible. You could see most of his arsenal in Friday's game. He refuses to pulL one pitch Samardzija before the seventh ( or basically any starter) and proceeds to watch the tying and lead homers get over the wall. Then he bunts in the eighth when behind in the game. The team is poor fundamentally - bad baserunning, they don't back up plays, routinely miss the cut-off man.
Ventura had been completely out of baseball for a decade before he was pulled into the managers job. He never sat on the bench, he never coached and he never managed a minor league team before then.
