Actually I think the Central Thruway opens up Central in this scenario as well as the northern part of Livingston (like Watson). Prairieville isn't too far out from there either if that's where he works. Zachary has a lot of new retail amenities and is also very close to the airport. St Francisville is more of a small town with less retail.

That said, I wouldn't want to fight the commute to LSU or downtown from Watson or Gonzales every day. I know people that do it and I know it's challenging. Zachary, Central or the city would be a better choice.

The west side has bridge tie ups to deal with often at rush hour, but if you are getting off on Nicholson to go downtown or towards LSU, it's very easy to deal with. The choke point is the I-110 split. Brusly is the more popular suburb west of the river.

If you want to live on a lake and live near Cajun people, New Roads is beautiful but expect to pay for private schools there. Pointe Coupee schools suck. Honestly not an option unless you have $$.
