Final Fantasy 12 (PS2) Discussion

What is the gaming board's thoughts on this game? I will preface that I have not played this game in 8 years.
1. Will this game ever receive a PS2 classic re-release on the PSN or HD remaster? Seems like it gets overlooked for what was a great game, as far as I know it has never even been recreated in any way since 2006 (where other less-good FF games have been revisited or sequel'd). Obviously this is all speculation but it seems like it would sell if they put it out there again.
2. Where do we rank this game in the series? Easily better than PS3 iterations, but behind FF 6-9.
3. Do we like the active battle system? It was quite a leap from turn-based strategies of the past, but I think it would hold up well by today's standards.
4. The atmosphere of the game definitely had an eerie feel, although I admit I don't remember the storyline too vividly. I do remember the main character had a Cloud-ish haircut. I remember some sky pirates and shite... and there was a signing moogle troupe. There was also a really annoying sewer dungeon I got lost in for 8 hours or so

the maps and cities were too big. the battle system sucked. the periodic table of leveling thing was dumb. I only vaguely remember the story and barely remember any of the characters. XII sucked.

1. Probably, only because SE likes to milk every possible FF title there is/was. It probably will be next considering they did X, and XI is an online game. I'd rather see IX as a remaster but they havent done anything with the PSOne games because of the design nature, so XII looks like next up when SE gets desperate for a quick payday.
2. I liked XIII better. (I know I'm the miniority) I put XII behind VIII, VIII being slightly better IMO.
3. Meh, it was different, and was broken. Nice attempt at change though, obviously inspired buy MMORPGS. I didnt like it.
4. Not sure where the question is here. The story/feel was hot-garbage though. The playable characters are forgettable.

It's been a while for me but I remember the game began to drag on and the story was useless so I just stopped playing.

It's like after FF7, every JRPG developer tried to see who could develop the most convoluted leveling system.

Looks like I'm in the minority but I loved XII. I thought the battle system was awesome, at first it was meh, but as you kept playing there was so much that you could do.

They could definitely take my nostalgia money. I think the game suffered from being close to the end of the PS2 gen where everyone was fixated on PS3 as well.

Probably not too far of a stretch - 13 is very meh for me because it was so linear. I did like the music tho.

I don't remember it being broken, although you could definitely set it up for doing degenerate and cheap things (gambits?)

It wasn't a question, just a talking point. I do agree it was forgettable and I don't even remember the villain

It was ok. Bosch should have been the main character, and I think was before Square changed it due to Japan having the weird obsession with feminine male leads.

I'm sure it will get an HD remake eventually. While it definitely wasn't my favorite RPG, I enjoyed playing while following the Brady strategy guide.

I would be willing to try it again on vita

This! Just put it on PSN.

I understand licensing isn't always as simple as we make it but that's the only reason not to open up every ps1 and ps2 game on the vita library.

The Vayne/Venat fight at the end seemed to never end...I think you had to fight 6 different iterations of him back to back(?)

I thought Balthier was the main character. After all, he's "the leading man".

If it comes the vita is going to get screwed.

I agree, I don't think Square will put much into the vita again.

The fighting system was great. Once you set all your gambits you almost didn't have to do anything else. I remember the Gilgamesh fight being especially fun.

They announced the new Dragon Quest Heroes and DQ Builders are both on Vita. There's still some hope.

The heroes coming in October? I thought that was just ps4.
