I've always been under the impression that swimming in the Mississippi in the NOLA area = guaranteed death. I feel kind of stupid being wrong, but not nearly as stupid as the people that actually went swimming in the MS River.

Same I thought it was a given that you'd die if you tried swimming in it.

There was a couple of people swimming yesterday by the shore. He kept going further out and got about 50yds off the shoreline. Then he just disappeared.

He was a guy living in a homeless shelter, and he no doubt went out too far, got tired and was dragged under. He has probably been floating under the surface in this area since yesterday and the bad weather we got brought him up. The wind and rain was howling from Algiers point towards the French Quarter this evening.
