I think you would be surprised by the number of people using social media platforms, and stuff like gofundme to raise money for adoptions.

My wife and I considered the international adoption route, and could have financed the 40K it would have cost us to adopt from an asian nation, but then we realized the vast need for foster care help here in the states.

Hopefully we will be ready to start receiving children by the end of the year and it will cost us almost nothing when we find a child to adopt.

Like was said earlier, those paying out the arse are paying for a certain type of kid.

This. An acquaintance adopted a 9 month old baby in New Orleans for the cost of the court papers. He's black and his both his parents are in jail. He's 7 now and an awesome little kid. His single mother is white.

2 friends from college who got married couldn't conceive. Went the adoption route through Catholic Charities. Cost them like $35k when all was said and done. They had to have a white baby.

Yep. Back before we had kids & during a time we thought we might never have kids, we discussed adoption. My mom was adopted, and I always thought of it as noble, normal, etc. Mr. 1999 had a harder time accepting the idea, but we agreed that IF we ever did, we'd prefer to adopt a black child from Louisiana, mainly in order to help the child, but also bc it would send certain elements of our families into tailspin conniptions

In answer to the OP, it's maybe a little trashy, but there's worse things to ask for money for. A friend of a friend on FB came up with a clever solution, though. The wife sewed, and she made customized bibs and burp cloths for about $8-11 each. They sold several thousand, and were able to fund most of the adoption & subsequent med bills (baby had some kind of lung defect that required additional care).
