I'm a home owner in Ascension. We do not have a park system like BREC but I would gladly support it.

They had a ballot measure about a year ago to create such a thing. It was a bond issue with some tax increases to pay for recreation which included upgrading a bunch of the existing small community parks plus adding a big rec complex at Lamar-Dixon. It went down mightily. The idea was that having such a complex at Lamar would allow Ascension to host travel ball tournaments and other events, but the people voted it down because they didn't want to have to pay more taxes to pay for Lamar-Dixon. They just wanted more improvements at their community parks or wanted no more taxes all together, regardless of where they were going.

The people also voted down an effort to raise taxes to build a parish wide water system rather than having Sorrento and Gonzales with water systems, Prarieville with a hodgepodge of private water systems for each subdivision, and rural areas relying on wells. It looks like the Prarieville portion may still happen by tying all of those systems together into a single, cohesive unit.

Gonzales Soccer Club is building a massive new complex in the open area next to LD. I've heard of plans to build a major signature park on the grounds as well. Hope it comes to fruition.
