Harry was a very smart person, and an incredible problem solver.

Add that to his natural abilities in magic, and yes, harry was well on his way to being a great wizard by the end of book 7.

The things that made people great wizards in the books weren't natural talent but the same things that make people great in any other line of work.

I do however wish he had been forced to use the unforgivable curses to defeat Voldemort. Being able to do it all without casting an intentional killing curse is a pretty massive cop-out IMO.

Exactly, and the part in the Order of the Phoenix, I think, when he runs Bellatrix down after killing Sirius he tries using it and apparently can't "mean it" according to Voldemort.

That is just a load of bull shite. If someone just killed my only family I had, after thinking I had no family for years already, I'm pissed off enough to kill that person. It doesn't matter how good a human being you are. In that moment you're going to mean it.
