I'm thinking about buying a 40 caliber FNH for home protection. I've read good reviews, but I'd like to hear what you guys think. Good gun or should I keep shopping around? TIA

I have one and like it. That's all I got.

Welcome to the OB. You've come to the right place.
Is there a particular reason you are choosing 40? 9mm, 40, and 45 all pretty much do the same thing so I usually suggest 9mm first since it's cheapest to shoot and holds the most ammo. But if you already own a 40 I can understand keeping ammo consistent.
FN makes some amazing handguns. I've had my eyes on the FNS9 for a while but just don't have the money or reason to purchase right now. It's gotten stellar reviews and people love the trigger. I can personally say I have not felt a lockup on a barrel of a polymer gun that slams shut quite like an FN. It's like closing the door to a vault.

I don't have one of their handguns yet but the FNH SLP shotgun is on of the best weapons I have ever used.

I've shot the fns 40 a few hundred rounds I'd say. Great gun. Trigger is horrid. Fnx in 9 or 45 makes a lot of sense to me. All my carry stuff is 9mm but I'm partial to .45 especially if you can get a ton of rounds out of it like the fnx mags offer.

I'll throw my vote in for the FNX9. Great capacity, great trigger, and I am a huge fan of their FNX line. I prefer hammer fired over striker, so take it fwiw. My FNX45 has become one of my favorite pistols. The lockup, trigger, feel, sights, and 15+1 in 45 acp is amazing. I've been on the lookout for a good deal for 2 fnx9's.
Btw, meprolight has a line of night sights that are great for the FNX in case you don't go with the tactical version. Either way, over the past couple of years, FN has taken over as my favorite pistol manufacturer.

I own three FN pistols which are all great guns. My FNX 45 is an awesome large 45 handgun. It's super accurate and reliable. I also have a FNS 9 and FNS 9 Compact. My wife uses the FNS 9 compact for conceal carry and she loves it. She also shoots it way better than all my other pistols. My FNS 9 is also a great gun which I carry occasionally in the winter months with heavier clothing.
FN now makes most of our weapons in the Army and they've been around forever with a great reputation. Overall it's a solid purchase.
