Thoughts on a roommate of different race/gender?

I have never had one before. However, I am moving to Oxford now and quickly scrambling to find one. I have screened three people and the best person is a black female. We talked about the issue and she understood the feelings. We both have concerns about others view it - friends, families, and general new people. I personally have no problem with, but have a mentality that I unfortunately do care more about others' thoughts of me than I should. What do you think?

Do you trust them? Can they pay rent? Can you have a normal conversation?

I used to have a white female roommate. Race isn't a big issue, but I don't like sharing bathrooms with women.

Lived with 2 female roommates at one point
Both smoke shows
Easily the worst roommates I've ever had. I'd avoid females all together. You may get lucky but if not..watch out

Lived with three girls of different ethnicities than mine for a summer. Pretty cool time. You learn a lot about other people.

I would have no problem living with a black roomate, but I would not be crazy about living with a female...
to be totally honest, I have been around oxford a bit and frankly, wouldn't want to deal with the social stigma that would result...Oxford is a very small and very tight knit town and rumors would fly about the two of you the day you arrived in town that would just add unnecessary complexity to both of your lives...

I lived with two girls a couple years ago and it was great, house was always pristine.
I had plans to live with a black friend a few months ago but they fell through. Would still live together if that option was available.
Most people would consider me a sexist/racist FWIW.
ETA: Just realized I'm living with a black guy now actually

I once lived with a Puerto Rican chick and a half-Indian chick. No big deal. They were both nice but not clean.

I've done it a few times. Enjoyed it each time. The best times were in Ft Walton Beach Florida. My buddy and I lived with 4 women, 3 white and 1 black.
