ouga Pizza Factory, which opened less than four months ago in the space at 6251 Perkins Road formerly occupied by Oscar’s Pizza and Ice Cream, has closed.

Owner Trey Matassa, who built his career in the litigation support business and had no prior restaurant experience, says he did not anticipate the slow summer season and did not have the capital to keep up operations. Plans for the space are unknown at this time.

Landlord John Kilpatrick, who developed the shopping center in which the restaurant was located, says he has not yet been officially notified by Matassa that Souga is vacating the space, so he’s not even sure when the restaurant will be moving out.

Matassa and his fiancee Holly Hatzis acquired Oscar’s and its recipes in February from Nino’s Chef Elton Hyndman, who operated the pizzeria as well as his signature restaurant on Bluebonnet Boulevard for nearly four years. Matassa and Hatzis are the third ownership group to languish in the space, which is adjacent to Urban Nine, a skateboard store, and Fleet Feet. Kilpatrick and his brother were the original owners of Oscar’s, opening it when they built the shopping center in 2008.
