Picked me up one of those Hydros IVs on sale yesterday. Finally gonna get me a redfish setup for when I go visit family. Thinking about a BVK rod since I won't use it very often. Any other suggestions?

There's a used BVK 8 wt on stillwater fly shop for $164. Not a bad deal and would do the trick.

As far as other suggestions, what are you looking to spend? TFO makes their professional series, which is a very good rod for the money.

As far as the line, there are a few places online selling scientific angler's shark skin line on sale. WF 8 wt. line should work.

As far as tippet, don't go crazy and buy the most expensive fluorocarbon tippet material...for redfish, it would be a waste. In LA, they aren't leader shy.
I'd find the strongest tippet you can get, a 0X.

My suggestion, if you are going to use this every once and awhile, don't go crazy and spend a load of money.

Thanks Stewie, yeah with this being used, maybe once or twice a year, I see no need for going get a $800 rod.
