Crazy how most of you were willing to give him $13 million a few months ago

corndeaux is really the only one that's felt $12-$13 was his market value. I'd say the most frequently tossed around figure was 4/$40 declining. I did say I'd be happy paying him $13ish, but that was on a one year overpay.

now the consensus is $8-10

Look at the Zach Lowe article. The playoffs will likely have a negative impact on the market value of defense only centers. You probably need them to get you to the Finals, but for at least one or 2 rounds they will be pretty useless.

I believe that was more towards the beginning of the season; could be as wrong though about the timing as I was about his price. I've come down throughout the length of the season. In this thread (I think) I said he's probably in the $8-$10M range at this point. I wouldn't be upset if they end up in the $10-$12 range either.

And it wouldn't shock me if a team overpaid for a big. It has happened almost every single year. Size comes at a premium. Asik and other bigs may get run off the floor in postseason matchups, but there are 82 other games first. Protecting Davis from November-April is quite valuable. And, as you've repaeated ad nauseam, there is not a particularly clear/easy way to get someone who can be as good as, if not better than, Asik on this team at the moment.

ETA: It's just sort of ridiculous, to me, for people to want to talk about getting better on defense and then be unwilling to pay for a very good defender. A guy whose play after the ASB helped propel the Pels into the playoffs. His offense sucks. It's a problem come playoff time. That just means they need to do more building up the roster to make adjustments in the spring.

I"m talking months ago, not weeks ago.

Not to start a pissing war, but you were the most ardent of supporters of the $8-10 today is the new $12-13 now if I remember correctly.

I understand our situation and the only way we don't keep him is in a sign and trade, which seems unlikely since most teams don't have a need for a guy like Asik, and the few that do, don't have anything to give us in return.

I do agree we need a guy to help us in the regualr season to protect AD, but AD is our 5 when it comes to the playoffs and whoever our C is will play limited minutes come playoff time.
