Big news on the hardwood. U-High forward Wayde Sims says he's committed to Johnny Jones and #LSU. @wsims2 @Geaux247

Not surprising. After one LA PF committed out of state, sims was the guy to fill that role.

Is he a PF? Not much on him from main recruiting sites. Appears to be listed at 6'5 or 6'6

He could currently plays like a PF, but will likely switch to SF/small ball PF at LSU.

He's around 6'6"/6'7". He's a little undersized for his position but he can play either the 4 or 5. The kid is a baller!

He's pretty small but what kind of athlete is he? Can he make more of an impact than bridgewater?

Better athlete than Bridge and a more diverse skill set. He is not Draymond Green, but will be a goid quality 4 year player for us. You need these guys a good mix of older and younger guys is the way to go. Vanderbilt will be okay this year but very good next year, my point is every 3-4 years they have good teams because they start over, we want to be consistent.

I was really hoping we could start poaching Memphis with all the ties we have their. Nice pickup and welcome aboard.

Is this Wayne Sim's kid? Wayne was a 6/7 big body/light touch Tiger Forward back in the day (late 80's /early 90's), and had one of the sweetest mid-range jumpers ever. Like Johnny Jones he was from Deridder. I'd heard he works at LSU so this would fit.

Regardless, Good pickup.

Yep, he's Wayne's son. Similar height but different body type. The kid has some hops, and I think he has shooting range out close to the three-point line, though does more of his scoring inside at the high school level.

I'm thinking with his build/height, he's more of a small forward at LSU if he continues to work on his perimeter skills. If he does play inside, he'll remind me some of Vernel Singleton.

Glad to get the 2016 hoops recruiting class started.

Vernell has had some um, er interesting career highlights. I'd link but I'd get banned.
