I think it would have been better of he'd actually taken the time to learn Spanish and really try to immerse in the city/culture. I think he just needed a few months to detach and get some quiet relaxation, which is what he did.

I have a buddy who moved to Costa Rica a couple of years ago. 32. Quit his plant job. Works a small easy going job in a surf town. Works, surfs, and lives his life. Loves every bit of it. Went and stayed with him for a couple of weeks last year. Very easy to see how he does it. If I hadn't been in a long term relationship, I was seriously considering joining him

Yeah I did this and it just made me appreciate how sweet my life in the states was.
