i know it`s becoming increasingly popular to retire in Belize, Costa Rico, etc. because retirement income goes much further there, anyone know anybody who has ever done that or thinking of doing that themselves?

Not my idea of a good thing.
I'd hate to be around so much poverty.

I know one couple that moved to belize after retirement. it's very primitive for them. not sure if that's a choice or if that's just the way belize is. I've never been of course.

I was going to retire to Utila Island, off the coast of Honduras. I stayed there several times and liked it. I bought some property with the idea of having a small house built. A few years later, I broke my back on a dive trip and found out how difficult it was to get to good medical facilities from such a remote location. I'm more accepting of the fact that as I have gotten older, I must consider health issues in my living situation.

I honestly think that people who do this don't have a lick of sense.

Just my opinion...

My dad tried it for a little while in Ecuador, but came back after about 5 months. He said the money went very far, but it just got boring.

Past tense. It's a feeding ground for Americans looking to exit the country now.

Depends on where you are and first impressions are important in such places.

Have enough money to live well.
