You'll likely get a bunch of worthy recommendations. For something uptown, yet off the beaten path, i'd recommend my favorite New Orleans restaurant, Clancy's. It's white tablecloth, but not stuffy. Great drinks, excellent service, and fantastic food. All right in the middle of a random residential neighborhood. It's not cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for.
