Niners safety Eric Reid is readying to play another season, but he acknowledged Tuesday that he has given some thought to leaving the NFL because of the three concussions he suffered in his first two seasons.

“Everybody evaluates their own situation as far as playing this game,” Reid said. “I’ve evaluated mine and I’ve decided I still want to play.” quote:

Reid had two concussions in the first nine games of his rookie season, but didn’t miss a game. He suffered his third last year in the first quarter of a Dec. 20 loss to the Chargers. He said he was medically cleared to play in the regular-season finale against Arizona, but sat out because the 49ers had been eliminated from postseason contention.

“I just decided it wasn’t worth possibly getting another concussion for a game that wouldn’t advance us,” Reid said. “So I decided to sit that one out.”

Don't blame these players for wanting to protect themselves and their futures.

Seems to be something else going on in San Fran for all of these players to be considering retirement from the same team compared to others.

Actually, Reid was pissed on Twitter for this guy twisting his words. He never said anything about retirement.

Money rocks. Health >>>>>>> Money. Depending on what your life experience has been, you may not agree with this.

Just to be clear, I NEVER SAID, "I've given some thought to leaving the NFL." @Eric_Branch

If I had 3 concussions in two years, I'd have to think very, very seriously about quitting. I guess it would also depend on the severity of the concussions.

All concussions are serious, but having 3 in a short time span is really bad. But I realize it's his choice and he has to balance the risk of future health issues against his desire to play and the money to be made.

Football is violent game and the size, speed and condition of athletes in the NFL is just crazy.

I am frankly surprised some last so long. I wish there was a way to stop the evolution of the game in a manner that preserved it's nature.

Cheers and best wishes to Eric Reid and his family / support system for realizing health is so important. Some with the ability to play at that level never even get the chance. I wish him an injury filled rest of his career which I hope is as long as he wants it to be.

Concussions are the reason I feel bad watching football, and consider not watching it.
