James Cameron emerged from Pandora to bestow his blessing on the upcoming Terminator movie. You might think that endorsing the next installment of the blockbuster franchise he conceived is a mere Hollywood formality, but as directors Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines) and McG (Terminator Salvation) can attest, Cameron can be stingy with his praise. In other words, Cameron prefers to think that the last two Terminator films, which he had nothing to do with and which underperformed at the box office, don’t exist. “[Genisys is] being very respectful of the first two films,” says Cameron, who’s busy making his Avatar sequels. “I feel like the franchise has been reinvigorated, like this is a renaissance.”
