Speculation
Im sorry but that isnt speculation. He was not really ever given the whip, and he had a ton left when crossing the line. He was still gaining speed

With the Triple Crown at stake and AP's not gonna go all out?? Speculation. What your seeing is the greatest 3 year olds of their day going balls to the wall for the greatest prize in horse racing.

And Ron Turcotte never went to the whip with Secretariat in the Belmont so I would assume he would have had a lot in the tank left as well.

Both great horses but Secretariat ran the fastest Belmont ever. That is the only fact.

How much track would AP have had to make up on Secretariat down the stretch? Would his jockey have thought it was worth the horse's effort and whipped him? Is it possible AP would have been worn out trying to keep pace with Secretariat over the first 1-1/4 mile? I think it is more likely that AP would have been worn down like Sham than he would have been able to cut more than 2 seconds off his time.

I don't know a lot about horse racing but I was wondering why the jockey was still whipping his arse right toward the end when it was clear he was going to win easily.
