Tired of Public Accounting

I've been at it for 10+ years now and I'm worn out. It wears on you. It's hard to keep up with multiple business's issues and constant changing tax laws. People bitching about how much you charge and just some a-hole clients. Sometimes I feel like I'm not doing all that I could do to help save people money, but not for a lack of trying.
Anyone else leave public for a private gig? I'd much rather work for a business and do their accounting,billing..etc, or maybe a plant job(in the accounting dept). I know it'd be a lot easier to control things since I'd only be focused on one company's issues.

Have you ever considered just firing the assholes first? Best decision I ever made...albeit different profession.

My wife did. She has done very well and says not having all the stress and traveling is worth more than anything else.

I'm in Br and they aren't my clients to fire. I just wanna go to work, come home and not stress out about shite.

You are definitely in the wrong position then. As a former CPA working in BR, that's pretty much what me and my friends who are accountants did.

I got out after 5 years. Best decision ever. I now work for the federal government in reconciliations and financial reporting. I may deal with stupid people, but I work no overtime and I can leave work at work. The pay, time off with the family and benefits is also not too bad. I have never looked back.

Not to be a dick, but maybe something like a government job or flipping burgers is something that might be a better fit. Good paying work is usually hard and stressful.

Have you been with same firm the entire time? If not, consider changing firms? I'm guessing you are a sr manager?
I've been doing public tax for 10 years also and trust me there are days when I've had enough. Hearing that the state might screw us on extended returns might be what puts me over the edge!
I don't know what kind of options you will have in BR. Not a lot of big business there. You could maybe go into government, or smaller company, but you might take a pay cut (which you might be fine with).

Sometimes I think I should just "give up" and go get a plant job. More money and less headache.

A lot of accountants go that route. After graduating, I worked in public for 3 years then left to work in private business through a contact I made in public. Seemed to happen a lot in our firm. Our partners were very hands on and did a lot of work, and we always had 3 or 4 recent grads come in and stay a few years then move on, usually to industry or financial institutions. A couple girls that started when I did stayed for 8-10 years and are managers now. I just couldn't do the 60 hour weeks in tax season and the audit traveling.

When some of my friends tell me what they make in just like why in the hell am I stuck in this office doing paperwork. I feel your pain. I'm always getting solid industry interest, just going one more tax season then I'm out. Great work experience but it crushes your spirit.
You will find it hard to find a company to match your pay since youve been in this for 10 years. but get on LinkedIn and start connecting with recruiters.

You should for sure be able to find something for $60,000 with 10 years of public accounting experience. You just need to look. There are several quality, good paying accounting jobs without the stress and extreme hours of public accounting.

If you are only worth $60,000 with 10 years of public accounting experience I suggest trying a different career field.

Dude 60k should be reached after 1-2 years in Public if you swith to industry. Assuming you have your CPA and are Senior Manager, you shouldnt leave for anything shy of 6 figures

Man don't be crazy. I hear you about getting out but I just got off the phone w/ a recruiter begging me to apply for a job in the 80s and I only have five years experience. Just be patient, get on linkedin, reach out to a robert half recruiter and wait. BR is exploding w/ industry positions right now, you just have to look.
