I haven't seen the play or read the entire thread.

But it seems that Harper was tossed for arguing balls and strikes basically. The dugout or the batter can not argue those without being tossed, its been that way for years.

Not in any clip I saw. He took a step back from the plate, turned his head toward the field and then turned it back slightly in the direction of the ump.

It was a pretty strong reaction to a call that early in the game, but everything that followed was mostly because the ump couldn't maintain control.
