That looks good, but now you've taken a maintenance-free material and turned into something that will need paint.

Aesthetically, I see why they did it. We used Hardie-Plank for the same reason.

I see some in my neighborhood both good and bad. The bad really show after a rain. You see cracks and fading. Those that are maintained(painted) look great, even after 10-15 years.
