Riding a bike on a highway is legal and dangerous to bikers and vehicles.

But...Alert me when there's a thread for a hit and run of a cyclist and a person walking on the sidewalk.

Not if you have a good driver involved. I understand that it's annoying to go around a cyclist. But if you are paying attention and giving them their 3 feet of space, there should be no accidents. It's drivers that feel like they can play around with the radio or send a text while driving 50 mph that are the only reason it's dangerous.

And I'm not advocating cycling on Nicholson. It's not the smartest move as mistakes are going to happen and there are tons of bad drivers. But in reality, if the cyclist makes themselves visible, it's the drivers fault. If the road was full of responsible drivers (and I am willing to admit to getting distracted), then we would not have any issues other than you being 45 seconds later than you would have been before.

I personally only ride on roads with 35 mph or less speed limits and huge wide lanes. Never any real traffic. There are still drivers who feel like they need to pass as close as possible when they have plenty of room to get over without even getting in the other lane to pass. There are drivers out there who feel like they don't have to take a cyclist's safety into consideration, because the cyclist is "annoying" to them for riding on the road.
