Wife is angry because I won't go to a John Cougar Mellencamp concert

If there's one thing I can't bear it's being subjected to music I don't like. I either like it or I can't tolerate it.... there's no in between. Funny... I can sit through bad movies because I can deconstruct the script and the acting... I can't do that with bad music, which just grates.

Mrs. Fat Man has very different taste in music and venues than I do. There was a time when I had your attitude. No longer. If this is what I can do to make her happy, then I sit through shows.
Relationships spiral up (in a good way) or they spiral down ( in a bad way). Go to the show, be pleasant and do so with no strings attached (no quid pro quo). Do little things for her without being asked and do things for her she knows you really do not want to do. And the result is she should reciprocate (eventually) without being asked.
Or, you can be the epitome of selfish.

There are a shite ton of things husbands "have" to do to make good with their wives that totally suck...going antiquing, shopping for furniture, going to the in-laws, etc. You may not like the act, but it's a chance to go hear live music and get drunk. Just go and quit complaining about it.
