Isn't it in Cali off of Los Angeles somewhere?

Hmmm

Looks like it was actually the Summerland Field off of Santa Barbara. It was drilled 14 or so years before Caddo Lake

I'm sorry. Craig's List is an incorrect answer.

Nothing like dodging sucker rods and catching an electrical cord in the trolling motor, only on Caddo.

Looks like we got ourselves a good old fashioned Friday afternoon discrepancy going on here.

Looking on the net it looks like the first well drilled offshore beyond the site of land was in the Ship Shoal block. Too many firsts in the oil field

I've found tons of sources saying Summerland was the first submerged oil well in salt water.

I'm sorry I ruined your Louisiana party

It's not my party. There is a Oil festival or something in Oil City coming up and the commercial is on the radio every 5 minutes making the claim of being the first location of an offshore well.

I think we need to show up with picket signs that say, "#Summerland Field Matters".

Also depends on your definition of offshore.

The pics on Wiki of the Summerland field wells appear to be connected to piers from the bank. Pretty cool. Never heard of this before. Thanks. #SummerlandNewbee
