What are the thoughts on checking headspace for a first time build? Is it worth buying the gauges? Are gunsmiths charging just a few bucks to check a bare bolt and barrel?
I mean, you have to do it. You cannot take a chance on bad headspace. You buy/borrow the gauges or you get it done by a pro.

Any regret not checking headspace on a new build?
I bet there are stories on the "internet", baw.

There's always that one time where a part or process didn't go according to plan. The set of gauges is cheap insurance for your AR build.
Once you get into bolt actions then there is no choice.
