Paris - Best restaurant city in the world IMO. One of our favorite restaurant rows is Rue St. Dominique near the Eiffel Tower. There are dozens of excellent restaurants within a few blocks of each other. I will name a few: Le Violon de Ingre, La Fontaine de Mars, Le Fables de la Fontaine, Chez L'Ami Jean, and Café Constant. We like Chez George on Rue du Mail. The best and most expensive meal I have ever had was at Guy Savoy. The prices are astronomical at night but they have lunch specials. As for Rome - a good casual restaurant near Piazza Navona is Enotecca Cul du Sac. It is a small wine bar with delicious food and an encyclopedic wine list. Hosteria Costanza just off Campo de Fiore has delicious food in historic surroundings. It is built among the ruins of the old Theatre of Pompey which is where the Roman Senate was meeting when Brutus stabbed Julius Caesar there in 44 B.C. I can give you more in Paris if you tell me what neighborhood you want to be in, but the metro puts the whole city at your doorstep. Have a great trip.

Just as an aside, I've always found going to 2 or 3 star Michelin spots for lunch is a better proposition. Couple of reasons:
1) Personally I prefer a leisurely lunch to a drawn out dinner. When traveling you will sometimes be exhausted by say 8 pm, right when you might be able to get a reservation at the same restaurant.
2) Its generally easier to get a lunch reservation than a dinner.
3) Its usually a little bit less expensive, but no less of an experience.
4) The restaurant is likely not trying to turn the table as they would be at dinner so the meal is more relaxed.
Come to think of it, pretty much every meal I'd put in the Best Ever Category have been lunches: l'Atelier, Cinq Sentits, Gramercy Tavern, Carme Ruscalleda's San Pau...
