I know you're upset, but don't be too critical of the vets. Their goal is to end the animals suffering. If they think he's crashing, they're gonna do what is best for the dog. That said, if they can keep him stable and comfortable overnight, maybe the situation will be clearer in the morning.

They are keeping him overnight. I'm ok with that ( besides being home now and the weird feeling of him not being here ). I'm picking him up at 7:30am. After trying to convince us to "put him down" 20 minutes after arriving we finally had them do the blood work and X-rays. They found nothing and actually apologized for condemning him only due to his age. They are now going to sedate him and keep him overnight and have recommended that we take him to a dog/pet dentist due to X-rays that they think show an abscesed (sp?) tooth. They told us that if that is the case it could definitely cause the high fever , and lethargic state. So now we just try to get thru the night without him and round 2 begins in morning. I'm feeling better as he definitely wanted to come home with us. Thanks to everyone for the conversation and I'll update tomorrow . Hopefully with a story about overreacting due to having an awesome dog who wants to live along time. (cheers)
