Garage Sale Strategy

How do you all go about finding local Baton Rouge area garage sales? I see the Advocate has a page dedicated to a mapped region with labled garage sales.
Also, what do you bring? Do you negotiate? What's the usual amount of cash you bring?

Do you negotiate?

I bring several hundred dollars cash at least and yes negoatiate within reason. Often times I'll say "I'll pay what you're asking for that trunk but can you throw in those pillows?"
Have to read the people though, some garage sale people can be assholes.

hit'em hard and fast, grab what you want and throw a few dollars in the air while running for your life

Hit them up the afternoon before the day they are having it. You have a chance of beating the pros to the good stuff then.

I'd rather eat barbed wire than shop garage sales!

Check out Graigs List, also look in the little Money Saver/Penny Saver type circulation's.
When I go(not with the wife), I usually carry a few $20s. If I find a good score which is several hundreds (which is rare), I will usually put a deposit on it and run to the ATM to getthe cash to purchase the item.
If I see something that I want but its seems over-priced, I will nicely ask soemthing like 'is that the best price?'
Sometimes they will not go down, sometimes they will.
The of the main reason people have garage sales is to get rid of stuff they no longer want or need.

As a major garage/estate sale customer, I do not negotiate at all unless I am buying bulk (how much for everything?). I am treasure hunting, so most of the things I buy less then $10 (worth $100+).
Unlike what some have said here, Baton Rouge has some GREAT garage sales, just know where to go. I stick to old, wealthy neighborhoods (Garden District, University Acres, Old Goodwood, Webb park area, etc).
These people buy nice things and sell them at a garage sale to get rid of them, not trying to make money.
There are two apps for iPhone, one is the app for the Advocate and another is "Garage Sale Finder". The latter one searches all ads on craigslist and other places besides the Advocate.
I usually bring $100, but have run to the ATM to get a few hundred when I have come across a large lot.
