Is it though?
None of the movies in the series is worth of any major awards, but it's just so damn entertaining.
Not to mention, with P. Walker's death, I'd imagine it was even more highly anticipated.

China. It had the largest opening day in Chinese history - almost $70 million. I think the largest single day a movie had in US history was the last Harry Potter movie which had $85-$90 million.
