The one that fits best in your closet, 'cause you'll never take it out for baby #2. By that time, your parenting ESP will have kicked in.

I agree with this too. Dedicated is the way to go. Much easier to glance over and see what's going on, and hear anything at any time.

Video is definitely a great thing to have. I'm sure most of them are in color now, but don't consider that priority, because most of your time viewing it will be at night, when the nightvision is on and therefore not in color.

Most of them are moving to 2.4GHz band, such as the one you linked, so just be aware that it may interfere with your other 2.4ghz wifi devices depending on placement of various things (monitor, camera, router, etc). I have one on the 2.4Ghz band and it doesn't seem to affect anything, though. I also have one on the 900 MHz band. The 900 mhz spectrum is more prone to physical interference. I sometimes have to angle the 900mhz monitor slightly or else it'll show static interference if I'm sitting up in the bed in one particular position.

That said, the one you linked is a bit excessive. You're paying for features that may not even matter. For example, the remote pan/tilt/zoom sounds great in theory, but we're talking about a newborn here; the camera is just going to be fixated on a crib 24 hours a day, right? The lens interchangeability sounds pretty gimmicky too. Other than those two features it seems to be no different/better than other monitors for half the price.

I have two kids, and one on the way. We have never used one. You wI'll sleep very light, and will hear every cry.

Video isn't needed. Get off your arse and check on the child when you hear the monitor go off. You're not going to watch that while you're sleeping.

You need one with good range and decent infrared pickup to see clearly in the dark. No wifi needed. We have a Motorola for one and a cheaper vtech for the other. The vtech was half the price and I actually like it better.

Get a foscam and ipcam app. Save 200 dollars and it works better. Not sure why you do not want wifi.

We have a Motorola. It's been great, but at $150, it's pricey.

LINK

Summer Infant. This is the model we got (gift from my parents). Haven't had any issues. Range has been more than we've needed.

Looking back, I don't think the video monitor is necessary but if your wife is like mine, having the video is money...otherwise she'd have me checking on him every time he makes a peep. I mean, the woman asks me daily if he feels warm and every time I turn around she's got a thermometer in his ear
