No. It's a Cajunism based on tradition. Dinner is your biggest meal of the day, from the French "diner" or "to dine." It can occur at any time of day, but they usually ate a big meal around noon. Then, at night time when they were hungry again, they would have "supper" which is a SUPlementary small meal.


So in SWLA, a lot of people still eat "dinner" around what most people would call "lunch time."
