The use of the word respectively is key so it is more of a grammar test than a math test.
However, the use of the word "too" should have been "either" grammatically.

Bernard would have known right away if the date was the 19th because there would only be one choice.

This is why it can't be the 19th. At first neither of them know, they just know that the other doesn't know. So the information that she gives both of them has to allow for at least tow different answers.
