IMO the original DKC was probably the biggest jump in graphics presentation I ever remember as a kid. Remember playing it thinking Holy shite this looks incredible.

I had surgery on my chin that year, because I stupidly put it down when I was sliding out on black ice. When he was stitching me up, he asked me what I wanted for christmas and I just gushed on that game for a solid 30 minutes.
