There are always exceptions. There are actual soccer fans in America. But most of this new popularity is driven by hipsters who thought it was cool or fashionable to get into soccer.

"I want to get home so I can catch the soccer match" are words I've literally never heard in my life.

quote:

"Hey, you wanna come over and watch the game with us?"

...what game?

"The Dynamo game".

^^^ Also words I've never heard spoken in my life.

Ummm, yes.

My family has had season tickets to the double A Springfield Cardinals for 10 years.

It's actually not. It's driven by CFB, CBB, MLB, NFL and NBA fans.

The talent blows compared to the top leagues.

frisco roughriders games are fun as hell. grew up watching them as the Shreveport captains and now I watch them here.

the funny thing is, if I drive a certain way, I can pass the MLS stadium on the way to go see the roughriders. I've never been to Toyota stadium and don't plan to unless it's not soccer. MLS blows.

I don't care about soccer, at all. Painful to watch and I hate hearing from hipsters how I'm uncultured because I find it to be the most boring sport in the world.

Yea but it doesn't blow, in general. I love the hyperbole of some EPL fan that's probably only been watching soccer at all for like 2 years turning off the MLS game in disgust.

I think we can all agree hipsters are unbearable but it's naive to suggest that all soccer fans are hipsters.

I think you are underestimating the impact FIFA has had. One of my friends starting following Tottenham a few years ago because of the game, another Manchester United. Now I have another friend I play FIFA with all the time with to become an Arsenal fan with me and he's been texting me on the weekends for links to streams to games. He actually asked to barrow my FOX soccer account to watch Champions League games on his phone.

The MLS is probably around the #15 league in the world. There's more talent in soccer worldwide than other sports because so many more people play it. Compared to the top leagues, the MLS kind of looks like a AA league.

I like Nascar too (and really like going to races). I'm a hipster redneck?
