Mad Men Season 7 - The Final Episodes Preview/Discussion

Season 7, Ep 8 "Severance"
quote:
Don tries to track down a friend; Joan struggles to solve a problem with an account; Peggy is set up by an unlikely person.
Where we are now (since it's only been FOREVER since the last episode):
- Don receives a letter from the "partners" via the firm's lawyer that he's in breach of contract for interrupting the Commander cigarette meeting. He confronts Cutler about it who is heading up the coup. Roger and Pete are pissed, Cooper is nonplussed, and Joan sides with Cutler.
- Cooper dies watching the Apollo moon landing. This sets up a series of events that inevitably leads to SC&P pitching their sale to McCann Erickson (who in a previous season tried to buy the firm). The only issue is Ted needs to be on board and quite frankly he's on the verge of trying to fly his plane into the Pacific. Don ends up convincing Ted to sign on. Still no Harry Crane as partner though.
- While Roger was working to get control of the firm back from Cutler, Don gave Peggy his spot to make the pitch to Burger Chef. She nails it and we see a little passing of the torch moment between the two.
- We get a nice moment between Megan and Don as she pretty much confirms their marriage is over when Don (pre- SC&P sale) calls to tell her he's being fired and he's moving back to LA.
- Sally really starts coming into her own when Betty's friend comes to stay with her two sons, a nerdy kid named Neil and a HS jock named Sean. While Sally is initially attracted to Sean, ends up kissing Neil when he shows her how to use his telescope.
- As Roger announces the sale to the staff, Don walks down the stairs to see a very dead, but delightfully dancing Cooper (a nod from Weiner and Co. to Robert Morse's Tony award winning Broadway career).
Thoughts on what's to come? What loose ends do you want to see tied up? And as always, it seems like we're looking at a 70s time jump so where do you think everyone has "landed"?

Finally, a show starting tomorrow
I'm so bummed about this 7 ep crap. I want Joan to get really humbled, Don to go full on Dick (no homo), Peggy to get laid, Pete to build upon last season, and Roger to keep being awesome.
Can't wait

I would be perfectly fine with all of this. I want Don to go out on top, but something tells me this show won't be wrapped up in a pretty bow, especially considering the creator and showrunner was a writer on the Sopranos.

Does Dick Whitman's past come back to haunt Don?

Good one.
Also curious if Peggy and Pete's kid will show up.

I wonder if he'll backslide at any point in this season after showing signs that he's changed.

My theory for the ending. The show ends with Don mid pitch, doing what he loves. Maybe he's started a new company? Maybe he's working for McCann? Who knows.
