The NFL is taking a significant step in gender equality. Sarah Thomas is set to become the first female referee to work a regular-season NFL game this fall, Bleacher Report's Tim Daniels writes.
Thomas has been in the pipeline for a while now, getting training during pre-season campus. She has been at the Saints training facility a few times during the last couple of years. But finally she will get her first shot during the regular season.

I'll bet she would not be able to find a pizza joint in Indiana to cater her wedding.

This is stupid.
Officials for any sport should be limited to individuals who played at whatever level they're attempting to officiate.
Frick gender equality just for the hell of it.

This is dumb. You're telling me she is more qualified than every male official in consideration for this job? I hate 2015.
Men are stronger and faster than women. This is not sexist. It is a fact of life. She does not belong on a field of professional athletes. Put her in the fricking replay booth if you insist on hiring a woman.

So she got the job because she's female. How is this not gender discrimination against males?

She better be decent. I don't give a damn if she's on par with other refs. But the second - and I mean the frickING SECOND - the Saints get railed on some horrendous call by her in the name of gender equality I'm going to raise some hell. And by "raise hell" I mean throw a temper tantrum in my home and blame Goodell

The NFL gets lamer by the year.
If I hear Payton say "protect the shield" one more time, I'm gonna slap the Vics out of his hand.

First they let fruit loops play in the preseason and now this! What is the world coming to? #SMH

Can't wait for her to ref a game on her period. Flags everywhere.

This is so good, I love it.
My dad, brother and uncle are all refs. I've thought about taking a look at the rule book myself.

I don't get why anyone thinks this is good.
I see zero upside and a lot of potential pitfalls with this.
