probably should just focus more on 2011, 2012, and 2013.

one freak play away from playing for a conference championship (most likely win that one). But do they beat Florida State in the National Championship?

FSU-Auburn went right down to the wire so me thinks Bama-FSU would have been about the same.

Maybe you should start an "Almost NOT a dynasty" thread

They were 1 freak play away from OVERTIME. The kick six wins the game for Auburn, but if the kick went out of the end zone, Bama DOES NOT WIN. It goes to OT and while Bama certainly could have won in OT, it is no given. Auburn did outscore them 21-7 from late in the 2nd Quarter. Bama's only TD in the 2nd half was the 99 yd TD, kind of a freak play itself.

then again OU put it too Bama in the Sugar Bowl so I'm gonna go with FSU wins regardless.

Brooklyn Dodgers

Won the NL 6 times from 1947-1956, but only won the World Series once.

that pass from Marshall to Sammy Coates late in the game to tie was kinda of a lucky play too really.

I think the Alabama's loss to Utah was worse. They came out with more energy against Oklahoma it seemed like. At the Utah game, Alabama only seemed to get some life when Javier Arenas returned that punt for a TD. Other than that the Alabama O was pretty flat.

I was goin to say this too. If they beat the Yankees in 1996 I think it would have changed how those teams are perceived today

so those kind of cancel out, but the broader point is the kick 6 won the game, but with out it it goes to OT and Auburn had played better in the 2nd half.

maybe because Utah wasn't a BCS team, however, that was 2008. I know you said FSU-Bama would have been close, but many people say Bama would have beaten them and given how they played that year against OU, I don't see why? Of course they could have, but FSU was loaded, i think they were the best team.

You could make the case that the Cleveland Indians were just as good in that very same time frame. The Indians were a juggernaut.

1994 - (66-40) before MLB strike
1995 - (100-44) After MLB strike. I think this team would have set the all time single season wins mark.
1996 - (100-62)
1997 - (86-75)
1998 - (90-72)
1999 - (97-65)
2000 - (90-72)
2001 - (91-71)

8 AL Cenral titles in a row with 2 world series appearances and most likely a 3rd if not for the strike. frick the Marlins...

Those Indians teams were awesome.

My 87 year old grandmother in Massillon still bitches about the Marlins at least once every summer.

even though Florida St won that game the thing that stood out to me the most was how well Auburn's D played that game.

I mean they were much maligned for most of that year, heck, remember the SEC Championship Game? Missouri poured the points on them big time until about halfway through the 4th quarter it seemed like.

yeah, you can say Auburn's defense folded at the end when Benjamin caught the TD but look at other plays in that game.

Ricardo Louis dropped a pass early on where he was wide open running down the middle of the field. That is a TD if he catches it. Also, the 100 yard kickoff return for TD FSU got just after Auburn had kicked a FG to go up 24-20 in the 4th quarter.

Auburn's D was getting off the field on 3rd down most of the night too.

Alabama-Florida State was the game I wanted to see all year.

But don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the ending of the Iron Bowl like most everyone else. One of the all-time great moments in college football in my opinion. And a lot was on the line in that game thanks to another circus finish in the UGA-Auburn game two weeks earlier.
