Greatest "almost dynasties" of all-time? (ex. Bills 1990-1993)

So as a South Carolina fan our WBB team is playing ND in the Final 4. Just doing a quick wiki search I saw where ND women's basketball is making their 5th straight Final Four appearance and they were in the finals in 2011, 2012, and 2014, however, they lost all 3 of those game.
I couldn't help but think, "damn, 3 more wins in a program's entire history and we'd be talking about 2 dynasties in WBB today instead of just one"
So what are some other examples of teams that made fantastic runs, won a lot of games, we're in the position to win it all several times... but came up short nearly every time?

Detroit Pistons
6 straight trips to the conference finals (2003-2008)
"Only" 1 championship (LOLakers) - 2004
One total choke job in the finals (SAS) - 2005

The early 2000's Eagles are the early 90's Bills of "almost dynasties"

Healthy, drug-free Akeem-Sampson Rockets teams would've had some epic battles with the Pistons and Bulls.

Knicks when they had Ewing. If it weren't for Jordan and the Bulls.....

Atlanta Braves in the 90s

Jazz is the first one I thought of too. They were really unlucky with the timing of Drexler to the Rockets and then MJ's return.

Braves early 90's?
they had a real good series with the Twins but then not so much against the Blue Jays the next year.
Alabama Football 2008-2014? Not many losses in there.

USA Hockey would be considered the top hockey nation in the world bar none if they could get by Canada consistently during medal rounds.
Mens - Lost 2 of last 4 Olympic finals to Canada, loss in the semis in the last Olympics to Canada.
Womens - Lost the last 3 of 4 Olympic finals to Canada winning only in 1996.
Pretty solid for a country that doesn't prioritize hockey.

Lew Lloyd, Mitchell Wiggins and John Locus man that could have been a great run.
Better examples from that same era the Bears and Mets. Especially the Mets.

Saints 1987-92
Drew, Archie, or even Jim Everett at QB and they win at least one SB

First thought was USC from 2003-2006. They easily could have won four in a row. There was the 4th and 2 against Texas and the inexplicable choke against UCLA in 2006. Also, Kentucky should have won three in a row from 1996-1998. I think they had a 3 point lead with less than 30 seconds to go against Arizona and then one of the Arizona players hit a three to tie it. Kentucky would have been the first team to three-peat since the Wooden UCLA teams and undoubtedly have gone down as a dynasty. It's sort of surprising how seldom it is mentioned how close they came to three-peating. I guess history really does never remember teams who lose in the championship game.
