Didn't the old man refuse to pay a nickel to get the grandson back? Also one of them was a heavy duty addict. He may have been the kidnappee.

It was learned that they grandson was in cahoots with the kidnappers. The grandfather wouldn't pay up so the kidnappers kidnapped him "for real".
