Buy an 850 Model
Either way, Samsung was supposed to release another patch this month in order to fix the issue completely after originally supplying a patch in October that repair a large portion of the affected 840 units.

My 840 EVO has been fine since the patch. I think I'm going to stick with MLC until it's confirmed that all the kinks are worked out of optimizing TLC NAND. The issue was clearly a controller firmware fault directly related to how Samsung handles voltage and wear-leveling in their TLC-based drives. 850 EVO are supposed to be better, but the prolonged use of TLC in consumer drives the way Samsung has implemented it is still new-ish territory. I'm a huge Samsung controller fanboy, so I'm sure I'll end up with an 850 pro at some point, but OP doesn't need to concern himself with brand bias or inherently flawed anecdotal evidence. There are plenty of SSDs out there that will be just fine for him.
