I'm trying to figure something out... I know these locks well. My dad would bring us out there all the time when I was a kid. The locks have gated walkways over them and they stick up above the water level by at least 6ft on the upstream side where the water level is higher.
So this article is not making sense to me... There are a few waterfalls on the navigation canal. Maybe that what there referencing?
In any case, sad story.

Story is a little off. It happened at the bogue chitto river sill on the pearl river navigation canal. Terrible thing to see. Most of the accidents there are from people trying to drive over it and that is just not very smart.
