I think it is more helpful for a young advisor's confidence in the early part of their career, and the information learned is valuable, but I have only had about 6 prospects/clients ask if I was a CFP in the last 20 years. Most of my clients don't even know what it is. I think that there are too many designations in our field, and most clients don't know the difference between them.

I've been doing this 15 years and have a nice book of business. Don't have CFP and don't believe I need it since I work for a large well known firm and have plenty of resources at my disposal. That being said...if I was an independent advisor I could see how CFP would help attract and keep clients.
