Just regular coax. When the guy came to install mine he wanted to run his own but I told him I had already installed mine where I wanted the modem. He hooked it up and it was fine. Just some 100 foot coax I bought at lowes.

It's been a while since I shopped coax, but at one point there used to be RG59 and RG6. The RG6 is thicker and RG59 would not work as well (if at all). So, if you have the choice, you should get RG6... again, I'm not sure if RG59 is even still a thing.
