Because a football player smoking pot in the offseason is the exact same as a neurosurgeon getting high before surgery?

I don't think anyone thinks this. You are twisting his poor example to make him look bad. I don't even think anyone is saying that they expect football players to show up to games high/drunk. Fact is that weed/drugs are against the rules. Regardless if it is legal to smoke, employers have the right to not allow it. The NFL doesn't allow it. He broke the rules and may end up missing out on multiple millions of dollars.

No, you are twisting his terrible example and argument to make him look good

And can we get past the "rules is rules" discussion? There has always been dumb rules in life and plenty go up for debate every year, it's not very productive to just yell out "ITS A RULE END OF STORY" anytime anyone questions it.

The rule is just hilariously bad when we are talking about a league that takes a blind eye to steroids (which I'm cool with), took a huge blind eye to domestic violence before wayyyy over correcting and stepping over due process, also treats DUIs like a traffic ticket and has a completely arbitrary punishment system

There's something wrong with that and it deserves a discussion past the "IT IS A RULE. YOU MUST FOLLOW IT"

I did not twist anything. He compared the situation of a player smoking pot in the offseason to a neurosurgeon getting high before surgery. The two are not comparable. A more apt comparison would be an actor, musician, or other entertainer getting high in their time off which no one gives a shite about.

Gregory was very stupid for smoking before the combine. It shows a lack of maturity and intelligence which is a big red flag that teams will go in depth with him about. However I believe the NFL's policy is naive and will change.

The current policy doesn't make sense for the NFL. Public perceptions of marijuana is changing towards acceptance particularly medicinal marijuana and the NFL publicizing failed drug tests for pot just brings a negative light upon them. I think the NFL will move to a more lax testing standard and will switch to testing at specific times hoping to avoid detection. Finally at some point they will switch to allow medicinal marijuana use.

It is a red flag for Gregory, but if the only bad character flaws he has are marijuana related and you think he is a special talent, I would not drop him too far down my board if I had one.
