Payton says Loomis, Cam Jordan are talking about a long-term deal.
Good timing after his relative down season last year (hopefully we can get 2013 Jordan at 2014 Jordan's price). I know that some were speculating that he may have been on the trade block.

This definitely seems like a smart time to do it. Hopefully he doesn't break the bank and returns back to 2013 form.

Let's hope that Jordan breaks the string of bad luck we've had on 2nd contracts.

I think Cam's reduction in performance has more to do with Hicks' regression and the injury to Jenkins than anything. Your end is only good if the tackle next to him allows him to succeed.

After the way the extensions for Grant and Smith turned out, I'm hoping the third time's the charm for DEs

I know his sacks were down, but does anyone have the numbers of hurries, QB hits, tackles for loss, and batted balls to compare 2013 to 2014?......It would also nice to know how many times he was double teamed or chipped in 2014 compared to 2013......I know last year definitely seemed like a down year for him due to his lack of sacks, but just wondering how the rest of game compared

He was getting doubled a lot because the two DTs were getting singled out. One of the things that made 2013 so successful was Jenkins commanding a double team like a true NT and Hicks overwhelming the 1-on-1s, leaving the ends seemingly unblockable. You throw a healthy Jenkins into an A gap you immediately create a pressure scenario.

He had an off year, but we have no choice but to extend him.

Saints defensive ends: greatest ever when produce a few sacks
Down years are never their fault
i like jordan but am cautious about what we pay him, i'd like to see us go back to more traditional 4 man fronts.

I like Jordan too but one dominant year out of four makes me a bit nervous

Which is why it's important to extend him now. If he blows up this year, he's as good as gone. As others have said, his production was down due to not having a healthy NT. He and Hicks were at a severe disadvantage as our OLB were getting no pressure and the lack of a NT to demand a double team. With those areas improved, both should be able to have a big year, which will translate to more $.

You know what you can expect from Jordan. Good pass rush and great run stopping. His ceiling thus far is nice, but his down year is still solid. I don't need him getting 10 a year, 8 is sufficient as long as he's not paid too much

Even though we do run a good bit of 4-2-5 when their offense has 3WR's on the field, our base still is a 3-4 which I was calling for about 4 years ago a couple of seasons before we made the switch.....But it seems we struggle to get the right personnel to run a legit 3-4 defense.....If we can keep Jenkins healthy, or get a backup 330lb+ NT to rotate with him and then get a good ILB in the draft to go along with Ellerbe that could potentially sure up the middle, and if we can sign Anthony Spencer and have him and Galette coming off the edge with Jordan and Hicks off the line that should be a good pass rush
