My question in all of this is how can society sustain itself when AI takes over white collar and blue collar jobs when unemployment skyrockets to 20 - 30% and beyond? High taxes on businesses to support the skilled workers through welfare who are being pushed out of jobs for a machine?

There simply won't be that much work that needs to be done. With machines doing all of our work, we should have the unemployment rate as high as 95%, maybe higher. Having a job will be an oddity unless you're an artist of some type. In theory we could all pursue our own passions without having to worry about providing for ourselves. It actually sounds pretty nice.
