Do you wished the NCAAT would use home floors?

I liked it as it added some color and made it very easy to tell what region or site you were watching
I liked seeing the Oakland floor in the Palace or the parquet at Boston.
I know most dgaf but I liked it.

Yes. I hate the standardization of the floors.
It's just like with the Super Bowl logos. I used to always be able to associate past games with the unique logos. Now they are just bland.

Yeah I wish they would use the original floors. But the current stuff is all about branding.

Do the host have to buy the floor? I have always wondered

who knows. The NCAA probably sends them out to all the host arena's and recycles them. I would imagine that it would be a waist of money for arena's to buy new floors every year.

Some places such as Portland, Dayton, Louisville have hosted multiple times and would help increase the bid
They allow you to buy the Final Four floor I know we tried to buy one when I was at SMS.

Michigan St. bought the floor that they won their NC on. I remember the season after, the were playing on ESPON adn they had a segment about it during a time out.
I wonder what the lifetime is on those floors.

High school floors take a beating and they can go about 5 years before start getting rough

But high schools are all purpose. These floors are pulled up and stored.

Depends how often you refinish them. Most big schools do it yearly we did ours every three years
Posted on 3/21/15 at 2:45 pm to Kracka
Ya i think the fact that they are stored and not beat on everyday they have a long life
Posted on 3/21/15 at 2:49 pm to sms151t

I know its a terrible example because the floor was notorious for having dead spots and major gaps in the seams, but didn't Boston use the same floor for decades until they moved into the new garden?
Posted on 3/21/15 at 2:59 pm to Kracka
They took that floor with them from the Garden I thought

I don't mind the neutral floors but I hate the 50 billion slick arse logos they put on there.

When the team moved to the Fleet Center in 1995, they brought the parquet with them. The floor was officially retired in 1999, as it was disassembled. Many of the pieces were sold as memorabilia and parts of it were integrated into the new floor.
1946 to 1999. That's a long damn time. 53 yrs.
Pretty Interesting short story of it's origin

They are painted on that's part of reason they went to these new floors.
